The 49ers’ 2021 season hasn’t kicked off early as many fans were hoping for, as San Francisco enters the Week 6 bye 2-3 and sits in last place in NFC West.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Takeo Spikes breaks down three keys to allowing the 49ers to turn the tide once they return to the field in Week 7.

“N ° 1, this team only converts to the offensive side in third position, down 35% of the time. get ahead, they have to do better on the third down, “said Spikes.

Indeed, the 49ers are ranked 24th in the NFL with a conversion rate of 35.59% in third place. Whether it’s Jimmy Garoppolo or Trey Lance under center, the 49ers haven’t been able to keep workouts alive like they did just a few years ago.

Speaking of the quarterback situation, Spikes’ second key is to set the plan under center for the remainder of the season.

“Build a plan for the quarterback position, we all know Trey Lance has the highest cap but he lacks playing experience so if you want to go ahead with Jimmy G depending on his health , you have to be intentional to have Trey Lance take reps to bridge the gap in the learning curve. “

Lance started for Garoppolo in Week 5 as the veteran had a calf problem. Lance injured his knee in the loss to the Arizona Cardinals, and everything points to Garoppolo going to start Week 7 if he’s healthy.

Finally, Spikes look to the defensive side of the ball and the 49ers’ narrow margin for rotation in five games.

“In order for them to get to where they need to go, it’s imperative that they force more turnovers and take care of the ball on the attacking side, and that’s how the 49ers are going to turn around this season,” exclaimed Spikes.

The 49ers’ playoff hopes have yet to be dashed, and the quest to turn the tide this season begins in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.
