San Francisco Bay Area AC Transit orders 20 more

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, June 14, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – (TSX: NFI, OTC: NFYEF) NFI Group Inc. (“NFI” or the “Company”), a leading independent manufacturer of buses and coaches and a leader in mass electric mobility solutions, today announced that the Transportation District Alameda Contra Costa (“AC Transit”) has awarded subsidiary NFI New Flyer of America Inc. (“New Flyer”) an order for 20 fuel cell-powered Xcelsior CHARGE H2 ™ heavy transit buses at hydrogen and zero emission 40 feet. The purchase was made through California’s State Cooperative Procurement, for which New Flyer was selected as the Top Rated Approved Supplier in 2019.

Supported by Federal Transit Administration funds, the order follows AC Transit’s 2019 purchase of ten hydrogen fuel cell electric buses and five battery electric buses from NFI, and clearly advances the plan to AC Transit’s clean corridors (a commitment to operate a 25% zero-emission fleet by 2023) and, ultimately, its implementation of the California Air Resources Board’s innovative clean transit rule ( “CARB”) which requires all California agencies to switch to zero emission bus fleets by 2040.

Based in Oakland, AC Transit is one of America’s largest-only bus systems, serving Alameda and Contra Costa counties in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area, offering more than 52 million trips per year.

“Since 1980, NFI has delivered over 740 buses to AC Transit, and we are delighted to continue to develop zero-emission mobility in the greater San Francisco Bay Area through this follow-up order,” said Paul Soubry, President and CEO, NFI. “AC Transit is an innovative leader focused on providing the best of urban mobility to its users, and we look forward to supporting AC Transit as it continues to transition to a fully zero emission fleet. “

“With more Xcelsior CHARGE H2 fuel cell buses in its fleet, AC Transit can count on proven range performance, cleaner transport, reduced noise pollution and the elimination of greenhouse gases – with buses that only produce clean water vapor from the tailpipe, ”said Chris Stoddart, president, New Flyer and MCI.
