Ramos shines on debut, Giants edge Marlins 3-2

SAN FRANCISCO — – Heliot Ramos had two hits and scored a run in his major league debut, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Sunday.

Mauricio Dubón added an RBI brace for the Giants, who scored the deciding run in the third inning after a pitch error by Miami pitcher Trevor Rogers.

Jorge Soler had three hits and a walk for the Marlins. Joey Wendle had two singles and scored two runs.

Ramos, the 19th pick in the 2017 draft, was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento before the game and received a standing ovation as he headed for the plate in the second inning. Ramos quickly scored and scored on Dubón’s brace. Ramos struck again in the fourth and retired in the sixth.

Leading 2-1, the Giants got help from the Miami defense when Rogers lined up the returning Austin Slater and his throw took first baseman Garrett Cooper out of the sack. After Darin Ruf doubled and Brandon Crawford punched out, Wilmer Flores hit a sacrifice fly to drive Slater.

Jarlín Garcia (1-0) struck out all six batters he faced. Dominic Leone pitched the ninth for his first save.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. entered Miami’s first run with a sacrifice fly. The Marlins scored again at fourth when Cooper was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Rogers (0-1), the NL Rookie of the Year finalist last season, allowed three runs and six hits in five innings.

Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani, who made his major league debut with the Marlins in 2014, allowed eight hits and two runs in 3 2/3 innings.

BE DEFENSIVE

Chisholm had a spectacular catch to deny Slater a first hit in the first inning. Slater doubled up 0-2 at 105mph but Chisholm – back in the Miami lineup after a day off – dove in and grabbed the ball, drawing applause from fans of both teams. Soler also made a leaping catch at the close in fourth.

The Giants had their turn in the third when Jesus Sanchez started with a right single and took a wide turn around the bag. Slater threw to Ruf at first base as Sanchez stopped, then broke for second. Ruf threw to shortstop Brandon Crawford, who tagged Sanchez for the out.
