Two talented Bay Area athletes have been selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
The California top pick on Thursday was Alijah Vera-Tucker, from Oakland.
The New York Jets went from 23rd to 14th place to get Vera-Tucker in the first round.
New York sent their first-round pick, No.23, and two third-round picks, No.66 and No.86, to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for the 14th pick and fourth-round pick, No.143.
The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Trojan played the tackle for USC, but will move into league custody.
Vera-Tucker, 21, was born and raised in Oakland and attended Bishop O’Dowd High School.
Najee Harris was selected 24th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Harris was born in Martinez but went to school in Antioch.
The 6-foot-2 running back has been in business conversation since his days in high school in Antioch.
He went on to play college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he had the greatest running career in Alabama.
