ABRIDGED: An Elizabeth Cromwell Mystery by Jennifer Mason

The tale’s darkness and California setting will recall the works of Thomas Pynchon, but Mason creates an atmosphere of his own.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, USA, June 21, 2022 / EINPresswire.com/ — Author Jennifer Mason is back, concocting another gripping mystery with an intricate plot in her latest addition to the Elizabeth Cromwell Mystery series, PREPOSTEROUS.

Dominatrix of San Francisco, Elizabeth Cromwell is embroiled in the sudden disappearance of Edith Barlow, heiress to the estate of an old friend of Elizabeth’s, a woman who had herself disappeared seven years earlier.

There are a number of mysterious people and parties introduced to us in this highly entertaining read: a struggling poetry zine, a mobile family restaurant in the Northern California redwoods, a 400-meter runner who missed narrowly the 2004 Olympics, a women’s track and field coach with a yen for bullwhips, a billionaire with a state-of-the-art S&M dungeon, a man serving a life sentence in Alabama, an enigmatic signing on a cheap oil painting and an erotic art dealer in Georgia.

These are just a few of the many mysterious elements in a convoluted series of strange disappearances that Elizabeth is trying to figure out with the help of an ex-Missouri Highway Patrolman retired to San Francisco due to physical disability.

“Mason’s prose is elegant and multi-layered,” says Kirkus Reviews. “Readers will find pleasure in parsing these rich, rambling chapters with a sense of melancholy and unease that seems true to real life…The tale’s darkness and its Californian setting will recall the works of Thomas Pynchon, but Mason creates an atmosphere of its own.”

PREPOSTEROUS is available on Amazon and other popular outlets where the books are sold.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

At 14, Jennifer Mason left Kansas for Malibu. With a nagging alter ego, unable to convince herself or not to commit to writing, she took the coastal route to San Francisco. In an abandoned Prohibition speakeasy, she invented the English department, where she discovered a voice in a brand. of a professional dominance that is as mysterious in its puritanical fantasy as it is comical in its portrayals of how we should feel. She is the author of five previous novels, The Oddball Gypsy Raconteur, Valedictorian, Sebastopol, Tors Lake and Partitions of Unity. His stories follow their character through scenes of what they think they see when they are most confused, as is usually the case when we struggle for an erotic connection. She lives and writes on Noe Street.
