NASA Uses Silicon Valley Giants’ AI Technologies To Improve Aviation Industry
NASA has started to develop AI technologies from several Silicon Valley tech giants like Google, IBM and Intel for further improvement in space science. NASA is focused on upgrading to study and research more about life in space with artificial intelligence in the near future. The use of artificial intelligence can provide amazing unknown data for an accurate prediction of the behavior of the universe. NASA can use some smart features like image recognition and many more thanks to future telescopes and observatories. The tech giants of Silicon Valley are world famous for their constant innovation in artificial intelligence to improve the traditional working system effectively and efficiently. Thus, NASA is partnering with these renowned companies to apply advanced machine learning algorithms to solve complex universal problems.
NASA has a Frontier Development Lab, to innovate new cutting-edge AI technologies by pairing computer science and engineering students with professional innovators from pioneering technology companies. Google, Intel and IBM contribute multiple combinations of hardware, technical resources, funding as well as machine learning algorithms to detect asteroids, planets or any other unusual activity in the universe. A team from FDL has already developed AI technology to study the atmospheres of exoplanets.
Google has helped with Google Cloud’s neural networks solve complex problems in a short time. Another team has built AI technology that produces 3D models of asteroids with precise shapes, sizes, and other detailed information. This helped NASA detect the behavior of asteroids towards Earth. Google has completed eight projects leveraging artificial intelligence in NASA’s productivity.
IBM, SETI and Lockheed Martin have helped NASA develop AI technology to fill in missing data from a broken sensor. This sensor has ceased to provide essential real-time data on EUV radiation levels. Thus, IBM’s computer program can analyze data from other SDO instruments to effectively detect EUV radiation levels.
NASA also worked with Microsoft to develop the OnSight software that allowed scientists to work on Mars in a virtual model. It uses real Rover data to build a virtual environment of Mars for further exploration.
Safari provided training on secure coding and coding standards to developers of space and ground systems at NASA to navigate through books and video courses on the implementation of AI technologies in software systems development secured in the Safari library.
NASA selected SpaceX, Blue Origin and Lockheed Martin to improve the operation of spacecraft at very high temperatures in order to land vertically on the moon. Blue Origin is working on creating a navigation system with AI technology for safe and precise landing at a specific range of locations. SpaceX is focusing on AI technology to safely move the rocket thruster from vehicle to vehicle in orbit.
Rapid breakthroughs in artificial intelligence have enabled data science to grasp space with satellite data as well as advanced computer simulations. These machine learning algorithms accompany astronauts to perform successful space missions in a limited amount of time. The vast array of space can be easily studied and observed with the implementation of artificial intelligence in traditional NASA systems. Artificial intelligence and robotics can build many robots together, to help NASA easily explore space avoiding space debris without any human intervention.
